Esports Jobs in Education: Coaching, Program Director & More Roles Schools Are Hiring For

Schools are hiring esports coaches, program directors, and broadcast leads, often faster than they can find candidates. Here's the landscape and how to land one of these roles.

The Fastest-Growing Job Market Nobody Talks About

Thousands of schools now run esports programs, and programs need adults to run them. That has quietly created a real job market inside education: coaching stipends, full program-director salaries, and hybrid roles attached to existing teaching positions. The NE Network job board exists specifically to connect schools with candidates for these roles.

The Roles Schools Are Hiring

  • Head Esports Coach: runs practices, manages rosters, handles league scheduling. Often a stipend role for teachers, increasingly a standalone hire.
  • Esports Program Director: oversees multiple game titles, budgets, facilities, and eligibility. The athletic-director equivalent.
  • Assistant / Title Coach: game-specific coaching (a Rocket League coach, a VALORANT coach) under a program director.
  • Broadcast & Production Lead: student broadcasts are now part of CTE programs; someone has to teach casting, observing, and production.
  • Esports Curriculum Teacher, schools adopting esports-based STEM curriculum need teachers comfortable delivering it. (Our K–12 curriculum is built to make that turnkey.)

What Schools Look For

You don't need pro-level game skill. Schools hire for youth development experience, organization, and eligibility literacy first, game knowledge second. Former players, teachers who game, and community tournament organizers are all strong candidates, especially ones who can point to events they've actually run.

How to Break In

  1. Volunteer or assist with an existing school program or community event to build a track record.
  2. Learn one scholastic league's rules deeply, eligibility questions are half the job.
  3. Watch the esports job board, school postings often move fast and get few qualified applicants.
